We took a ferry from Phuket to arrive. The island Ko Phi Phi is actually composed of two different islands. The big one named Ko Phi Phi Don where you can visit and stay, and Ko Phi Phi Leh, the smaller virgin island protected by UNESCO.
As soon as we arrived at Ko Phi Phi Don, we went up to the viewpoint where you could see the whole island. It is shaped as if two half moons had collided with each other. Each bay had its own color, but were equally beautiful. The bright colorful sunset reflected on the ocean. It was a unique welcome to the island.
During our stay, we booked a boat tour that would take us near the virgin island. We were not allowed to step on the beach, but we were able to stay on a boat that could deck nearby. The local tour guide got us to jump into open waters to snorkel and kayak around. When the night fell, the bioluminescent plankton glowed under the boat. We slept on the top deck, right beneath the sky. Deep silence, shiny stars, ocean sounds and the indistinguishable clash between the dark waters and the night sky. There is just some sort of magic within this island that we will never forget.
Special thanks to Vane Manzanilla, with whom I was fortunate enough to share this unforgettable experience.
